Protecting the ECE Core in a Challenging Environment

Protecting the Core in a Challenging Environment

This timeline says it all:

ECE providers today are navigating the perfect storm of thriving, chaos and, well, more chaos. This week, we are covering the most important segments on what to address. Then next week, we will share insights on how to kick that off in 2026.

Protect the Core: Strengthen Center Fundamentals

The first line of business for ECE leaders is to “protect the core” by reinforcing the financial and operational fundamentals of each center. Protecting the core does not mean cutting quality—it means making disciplined decisions that preserve educational outcomes while ensuring financial sustainability. Strong fundamentals provide the stability needed to weather uncertainty. Want to add another level to your house? Your foundation has to support it.

Attract New Families: Enhance Go-to-Market Efforts

As we'll share next week, we are in a competitive and price-sensitive environment. Attracting and retaining families requires a bit more "oomph" and some more intentional go-to-market approach. Clear, consistent communication helps centers remain visible and relevant, even as families face increasing financial pressures.

What's My Value Proposition?

Local competition is getting TOUGH. ECE centers need to better articulate what makes them distinct. Whether it is curriculum, quality, educator expertise, family engagement, flexibility, or community connection, each center has a unique value proposition. Clearly communicating these strengths helps families understand what they are choosing—and why it matters—beyond price alone.

As the graphic shows, we are now again in a period of up and down. But as soon as we are aware of these fundamental items, then we can prepare for ideas on how to serve our children, centers and parents in 2026.
